Old Town San Diego
A few years ago, when news came that an outside contractor would be taking over the commercial facilities in the park, there were worries about how a non-local management company would be able to "create a more authentic and historically correct understanding" of San Diego in the mid-1800s. Whether due to the management or the economy, revenues dropped (though in 2005 and 2006, old Town San Diego was listed as the most visited state park in California), and in 2009, the Old Town's commercial facilities contract returned to a locally-run operation.
While budget cuts have cut into park services and museum hours, Old Town San Diego is still a beautiful place to visit, and mor than a simple walk in the park.
